Memory, Music and Wellbeing
Bringing live music back to life — one room at a time.

NEW FOR 2026 JUKEBOX SESSIONS...
Your Residents Choose the Music - Two Activities, One Booking!
Jukebox Sessions turn passive entertainment into active co-creation. Residents select their favourite songs from my 381-strong repertoire, share why they matter, then experience their personal playlist performed live.
How It Works:
1. Song Selection Session - I provide the complete song list (1940s-1980s classics). Residents choose their must-hears and share their stories.
2. Live Performance - I return to perform their curated playlist. Every song has meaning because they chose it.
Two Ways to Run It:
∙ Full Service - I facilitate both the selection session and performance
∙ Collaborative - I send you the song list, your team gathers choices, I perform their jukebox
Why Activity Coordinators Love This:
✓ Two documented activities from one booking
✓ Person-centred engagement evidence
✓ Cognitive stimulation (memory, choice, storytelling)
✓ Residents own the experience - zero passive listening
✓ Flexible delivery fits your staffing levels
Not Sure Where to Start?
Try one of my themed sessions first (Valentine’s, Spring Memories, Christmas), then move to fully resident-curated sessions once you see how engaged residents become.
The Difference:
Residents aren’t audience - they’re collaborators. The “I chose this because…” conversations provide rich reminiscence material and demonstrate meaningful person-centred activity.
Background: Retired social worker with 40+ years musical experience. I understand care environments and dementia-friendly delivery.
1. Why Live Music Matters
Live music engages people in a way recorded sound never can. It connects, uplifts, and restores — bringing life, laughter, and community into care and residential environments.
Research and lived experience both show that live musical interaction can:
Improve mood and emotional wellbeing
Reduce anxiety, loneliness, and agitation
Stimulate memory recall and conversation
Encourage movement and participation
Strengthen social connection within the home
Support CQC standards for person-centred care and meaningful activities
For residents living with dementia, live music can unlock memories, reduce distress, and create moments of joy and recognition that other activities cannot reach.
2. The Parlour Guitar Approach
Parlour Guitar brings relaxed, inclusive live performance into care and residential settings. I combine professional musicianship with sensitivity to each group’s needs — adapting tempo, tone, and style to suit the room.
I understand care environments. Sessions are designed to be calming yet engaging, with no sudden volume changes or overwhelming stimulation. I work around mobility needs, communication challenges, and varying levels of cognitive ability — ensuring everyone feels included.
Interactive – residents are encouraged to sing, clap, tap along, and share memories at their own pace
Flexible – every performance adapts naturally to the audience’s energy and attention span
Familiar – featuring songs from the 1940s through to the 1980s that resonate across generations
Safe and professional – fully insured, Enhanced DBS-checked, and completely self-contained
Low-pressure – no one is put on the spot; participation is always invitation, never expectation
3. Example Themes & Sessions
Performances can be themed or mixed to suit your activity calendar and residents’ preferences. Popular programmes include:

Seasonal Themes – Christmas carols, Valentine’s love songs, Summer Singalong
Reflective & Calming Sets – gentle melodies for quieter afternoons
All sessions are available as 30-minute or 60-minute programmes, or as bespoke performances for special events, family days, or seasonal celebrations.
I can also tailor setlists based on residents’ backgrounds, preferences, or cultural heritage — just ask.
